Dental procedures, such as fillings, cleanings, and root canals, are commonly employed to achieve and maintain a healthy mouth and beautiful smile, however, an important and often overlooked aspect of having a healthy smile is the art and benefits of cosmetics. Advanced technology in this field allows patients to attain white, straight, and natural looking teeth. Porcelain veneers are one of the most highly effective ways to help cosmetically develop or restore an impressive smile.

What are Porcelain Veneers? back to top

The concept of porcelain veneers originated in the early part of the 20th century, but true breakthroughs were not made until the 1980's and 90's. Originally, simple pieces of porcelain were adhered to the teeth using denture glue, but today, veneers have evolved into an art form.

At Dr. Linhart's office, all veneers are custom made for each patient. A mold of your teeth is taken and from that mold, our lab is able to create realistic-looking teeth that will make your smile look fabulous. The porcelain material used to make these veneers is extraordinarily strong and sculpted by our world-class technicians. Then, Dr. Linhart meticulously bonds the veneers to your teeth and a new smile is born.

Porcelain Veneers - What are the Benefits? back to top

Porcelain Laminate Veneers have numerous advantages over other cosmetic techniques:

Porcelain Veneer

  • The natural tooth structure is preserved and the surrounding soft tissue remains untouched.

  • Individual teeth of dissimilar color and contour can be perfectly matched.

  • Permanent stains, such as those caused by antibiotics administered during childhood or excessive smoking, can be completely masked.

  • Natural teeth weakened by root canal treatment and old fillings can be strengthened by this process.

  • Fractured and trauma-damaged teeth can be restored without the invasive tooth reduction that is necessary for full crown coverage.

  • Misaligned teeth can be corrected to produce a more perfect smile.

  • Local anesthetics are often not required for this procedure.

Porcelain Veneers - Who Is a Candidate? back to top
A wide spectrum of patients can qualify for veneers, however, in some circumstances, veneers might not be the appropriate approach for restoring a smile. If you are missing teeth, need major orthodontic work, or have weak teeth, it may be necessary to have additional or alternative work done by Dr. Linhart prior to incorporating veneers into your dental program.

With the advent of implants, the wonders of orthodontic treatment, and modern therapies such as root canals and more, the majority of patients can be viable candidates to have porcelain laminate veneers placed.

Come in today for a no fee consultation with Dr. Linhart to see if you are a candidate for porcelain veneers.

Porcelain Veneers - What are the Costs? back to top

Because porcelain laminate veneers are custom made on a per-patient basis, it is impossible to list the exact cost of veneers. However, it should be noted that veneers are very cost effective in their longevity and customization.

For patients with slightly crooked or stained, but otherwise reasonably healthy teeth, the cost of veneers is a fraction of the price of orthodontics, which can take years of uncomfortable treatment and cost hundreds to thousands of dollars each year. In addition, laser whitening would be necessary to restore teeth to their original shade. With veneers, on the other hand, there are instant results that will last for decades. Thus, in the long run they are certainly a cost, time, and energy effective option.

Within a week, veneers can completely transform your smile. We are confident that you will look at yourself in the mirror and say "Wow!”

Porcelain Veneers - What is the Procedure? back to top
The process of making customized porcelain veneers is complex and entails intricate precision. It requires numerous steps, any of which, if done improperly, could result in teeth that appear too large, uneven, the wrong color, or fake. Dr. Linhart describes the process of placing porcelain veneers as a 5-step encounter:

1.) Impressions: Impressions are taken and photographs of the original smile are examined. Exact tooth color is determined.

2.) Waxup: A laboratory technician, using these molds and pictures, creates a realistic smile design in wax of what the patient’s new teeth will look like.

3.) Temps: Using the smile design, exact replica temporary veneers are created.

4.) Modify: Dr. Linhart, a lab technician, and the patient analyze how the temporary veneers look, determining what needs to be changed and what should remain the same prior to final placement.

5.) Placement: The lab technician creates the customized porcelain veneers and Dr. Linhart skillfully places these veneers in the patient’s mouth.

The results from such a procedure can be stunning, transforming crooked, yellow, or misaligned teeth into a beautiful natural smile (before and afters). The entire process can usually be accomplished in just a few days, requiring only two appointments, however Dr. Linhart is, of course, able to accommodate rush cases as they arise.

Porcelain Veneers - How long do they last? back to top
Two of the major questions that people ask when it comes to porcelain laminate veneers are, "What is the long-term success rate?" and "How long will they last?".

Porcelain Veneers last longer than bleaching or bonding; porcelain laminate veneers have a life expectancy of 15 years or longer. They are resistant to stains and chips, are extremely natural looking, and will not discolor over time.

Of course, as with any dental procedure, veneers may last more or less than the average expectancy, and accidents such as breakage can happen as with natural teeth.
